English/Language Arts in Eighth Grade focuses on the five critical areas of the content area: Reading Literature, Reading for Information, Language, Speaking & Listening, and Writing. Assignments will seek to encourage critical thinking and a deeper analysis of grade-level texts.Our textbook, Collections, will be the primary resource for lessons and assignments. Students will read the Newsela article "NFL Team Drops 'Redskins' Name" and summarize what they read. This weekly assignment will gradually become more complex. The skill we are currently focused on is summarizing an informational text. A summary should include the most important information, particularly the main idea, as well as the most critical supporting details to demonstrate mastery.
