Happy Friday!
Students had a busy week!  Kansas State Assessments were Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, next week will be their last Testing sessions with Science!
Thursday and Friday students were given work time to complete their Module 11 Vocabulary, Module 11 Pretest, and the Mod. 11 "Are you Ready" from their workbooks.
This work time could also be used to complete or correct the Module 10 Quiz, turn in any missing work, and complete the retake.  Students were encouraged to do the work that they needed to do individually to increase their success.  With that being said, some students will not have any homework over the weekend (they got it all done in class),  those that worked on their missing work or Quiz stuff, will have vocabulary and some book work to complete.  I will be updating Skyward throughout the weekend.
Thank you for your time,

Assignment

Greetings,
I hope everyone is having a great day!
I have been working on grading the students assignments and updating Skyward.  The Quarter ends this Friday with a half day of grading for teachers, students release at 11am.
This will be the due date for any corrections or retakes, missing work etc.
Students know their options as far as correcting and retaking a quiz or test.  I've had a few ask about extra credit, and I generally don't give any, but I did give two chances this quarter when I had substitutes, they were due the week they were assigned.

8th grade students are starting Transformational Geometry, Module 9.  Students used the TI-84 Graphing calculators to graph a gold fish, and then transform it!  Wednesday's activities will consist of 9.1 Transformations and Congruence, notes and practice problems pages 279-282, with 1-12 pages 282-284 due on Friday.

7 Plus students are continuing on their adventure through 7th grade math.  One of the students completed their 7th grade coursework this week and has started the 8th grade materials.
I will have their grades updated to the work completed by the end of the week as well.

I hope everyone has a great week.

MATH Night and Chili Cook off is this Thursday at Patton!  I hope to see you here!

Happy Tuesday!  With all of the ice today I'm grateful we were able to stay home today, I hope every one is safe and enjoying the extended weekend!
I've been working on getting grades updated, I still have a stack of papers about 3 inches... that I'm working through this afternoon, so things will continue to change throughout the day.
If students have any missing assignments I've opened the online assignments for the applicable modules.
Core 8 will be finishing up Module 8 taking the Module 8 Quiz with the Unit 3 Post test next week.

Assignment

Greetings,
This week students will be working on 8.3 Solving systems of linear equations with elimination.
Today we worked through examples on the white board with students taking notes in their IMJ's.
Practice problems in the Workbook: Monday Notes WB pages 243-247.  Tuesday Guided Practice and Independent Practice 248-250 #1-16 all, Wednesday continued work on 248-250.  Tuesday and Wednesday are work days, #1-16 Due Thursday.  Students will be working in small groups for reteaching and review throughout this week.  Thursday our goal is to introduce and learn how to use the TI 84 CE Graphing Calculators!
I also passed back papers Monday, including their Mid-Module 8 Quiz (basic check for understanding).
Students were given one class period to answer 6 questions, Quiz was worth 12 points, 6 for correct answers and 6 for work on those 6 problems.  Directions and expectations were posted on the board as well as given verbally.  If students did not finish this Quiz or they scored poorly they have to opportunity to complete corrections and turn them in by Thursday.  These corrections will be their ticket to a retake.  Retakes should be complete by next Wednesday the 21st.
Tutoring is offered after school on Tuesday and Thursday from 3:00 to 4:00.

I hope everyone has a great week!
Please email me if you have any questions or concerns.

Assignment

Happy Snowy Day,
I hope everyone is enjoying the long and snowy weekend.
Students worked on a quiz Friday in class, Vocabulary and computation.  I'm updating the grades in Skyward.  Some students did not finish in class on Friday, they will have some time in class to work on it Tuesday.  There are a few students that not turned in any work for this module, if your student is in this category, please discuss it.  I will email or call if they have not turned in work by the end of the day on Tuesday.

So far we've solved equations with variables on both sides of the equal sign, and equations with rational numbers (fractions and decimals).  These are the items that were covered on the Quiz.
This week we will work on solving equation with the distributive property, and equations with many or no solution.

Please encourage students to do their work on paper, and to show all of the steps.
Some students are trying to guess and check to solve the equations, which can work for a while, but with the fractions and decimals it is nearly impossible.  It is important that they develop their algebraic reasoning skills, understand the properties of equalities, and know how to solve a complex equation.
One of the most common errors is dropping of losing a negative, walking through each step lessens the chance a student will make a silly mistake, if they do, they'll be able to find it.
Module 7 should be accessible through the Personal Math Trainer at my.hrw.com.
I hope you have a fantastic rest of the weekend.
Tutoring will be Tuesday and Thursday from 3 to 4.
As always, if you have any questions please send me an email,
Respectfully,

Assignment

Happy Friday,
Assignment: PMT 7.1 or WB pages 197-202 Complete Guided Practice and Independent Practice 1-10 by Monday.
Vocabulary due Monday on Quizlet or in the IMJ.

Today in class students graded the "Are you Ready" for Module 7, WB pg 194.
Vocabulary is Due Monday, pg 195.
Warm-up consisted of individual white board practice "simplifying algebraic expressions"
I had expressions written on the SMART board and students simplified them on their own white boards, held up their board so I could see it and check their work.
Example:  -8x + 17+12x -4   would be simplified to 4x + 13.  You may only combine like terms.

Assignment

Happy Thursday and welcome back to Math!

Assignment for today:  Module 7 Pretest (PMT)
Module 7 Vocabulary Pg 195 in WB (create a Quizlet study set)
"Are you Ready" WB pg 194 or PMT

Students have spent the last two days working with their personal data.
In their IMJ students have a growth chart for their Star Test, Beginning of the year test, and should have data for each Module-Pretest through Post test.  Today they took the standards from the questions they missed on the B.O.Y. test, recorded them in their IMJ's and aligned them to the modules in their Go Math Materials and IXL resources.  They will utilize this information during their warm-ups.  I will ask students to work for approx. 7 minutes on their Personal Math Goals-Mastery of the standards.  This data analysis will increase the individual student benefit from the practice time :).

Module 7 consists of 4 lessons, our goal is to finish it up next week with the Module 7 Quiz and Vocabulary Quiz on Thursday the 11th or Friday.

As always, if you have any questions please feel free to email me!
Respectfully,
Mrs. Faught

Assignment

Happy Monday!
Students have been working independently the last couple of days, working on Module Lessons, Interim testing, and corrections.
Tomorrow Students will take a Unit Test, Wednesday will be the start of their Middle of the Year Benchmark/final.
Students will take the Beginning of the Year test again, their final test score will not be the score seen on their screens as I have selected questions that correspond to the Modules we have already covered this year.  These questions will count as their final in an effort to eliminate a test.

I will accept assignments from the last Module through Thursday.
Skyward is up and running again, I have been working on updating the students grades and will continue to do so throughout the week.
I ask for your patience as it will take some time, if students report a discrepancy from what they have for an assignment and what they see in Skyward they have been asked to turn in the assignment with a Post-it note with an explanation written on it, this will allow me to investigate and fix any errors.

As always, please email me if you have any questions of concerns,
Very Respectfully,
Mrs. Faught

Assignment

The Last TWO WEEKS of the Semester!!!
These last two weeks will be very busy in the Math classes.
Students just finished their Star Testing last week, they will have all have Module Quizzes,  a Unit Test, and a Middle of the Year Benchmark.  I will choose questions from the MOY Benchmark to score for their Semester Final as to not give yet another assessment.
ALL CORRECTIONS and Missing work is DUE by FRIDAY 8 DEC.

I am currently working on grading their quizzes, corrections, and make up work.
I've reopened the prior module's assignments in an effort to encourage student completion.
The last three Modules for 8th grade have been dealing with Rate of Change, slope, linear equations, and functions.  If students did not do well on prior Modules the struggle is getting real.
I will be available after school this next week on 4, 5, and 7 DEC from 3 to 4 for tutoring in my classroom.  This is also the best chance to retake a Quiz.
As always, they may come into Advisory or Lunch to complete them.
I appreciate your patience as it takes a while to grade everyones work.
I've attached a few pictures of the week.
Thank you for your time,

Assignment

Happy Tuesday!
Today in math students started Module 6 Functions!!!
Vocabulary was assigned yesterday, if they completed their Module 5 vocabulary, (11 terms) they have 4 new terms to define.  If they did not, they should define all of the terms.
Assignment is Homework 6.1 online or Workbook pages 158-160 # 1-14.
The Personal Math Trainer video walks through the beginning of the Module, Pages 151-157, students worked through these pages in class today, most classes had 15+ minutes in class to work on their assignment.

Monday students took the Module 5 Post-test/Quiz, if they took it online their score is already entered.  If they did the paper version I have not graded them yet, and some have not finished it.
Please encourage students to complete corrections.  I will offer a retake on Tuesday (12/5) of next week in advisory or after school (tentatively, there is an away basketball game on the 7th which conflicts with the Band Concert so they may change the date of the game, as of today I will be available after school on the 5th).

Assignment

Greetings,
I hope everyone has had a great week, and that you enjoy the long weekend!
Students in Core 8 completed their Module 4 PostTest today in class, and do not have any homework for the weekend unless they need to complete corrections or are missing assignments.
I will be working intermittently throughout the weekend grading and updating the grade book.

As more students get onboard with the Growth Mindset and corrections it will take longer for me to get all of the corrections graded and entered into the grade book.  I ask for your patience, and trust that you know I'm working diligently to get them completed.

I have also started assigning homework that is adaptive and includes a warm-up through the online my.hrw.com.  As this is our first year using the program, I am trying different avenues offered by the program to meet students where they are.  The adaptive warm-up is unique to each student and supports them in their current struggles which could be amazing!
Students come to us from all over the world with different math backgrounds and possible gaps.  As their math teacher my dream is to be able to identify and teach the gaps and fill them in along with the new material.  I am hoping this aspect of the program will help with this process.  I really appreciate the paper and pencil aspects of math, but find the advances in the programs offered to be very beneficial.  I ask students to do their work on paper and turn it in even if the assignment is on the computer.  If you have any questions or concerns about this process please ask!

Thank you for your continued support,
V/R

Assignment

Happy Friday!
Core 8 Math has homework that is due on Monday, WB pages 110-112 Questions 1-14.  Graphing is required, so I will not be loading the Online homework into the PMT 4.3.  The videos and step by step questions are still available but will not count for their homework grade.  I printed WB pages for those that said they had misplaced their workbooks.  If they come home without it, you can print at home too, I've attached pictures that show where to go.
I also told them that they would need graph paper, and suggested they get it from the bookshelf in the classroom if they do not have any of their own, here or at home.
I really need to see that they know how to graph and how to interpret a graph.
If you have any questions or concerns please email me,

Assignment

Students are to have completed 4.3 for class on Monday.
This assignment is in the workbooks only.  Graph paper is needed, and was shared on Friday.
WB pages 110-112 Questions 1-14 All.
I did not assign this on the online program as I want to ensure students know how to graph lines on a physical graph, it should also eliminate the computer error excuses...
Please encourage students to show their work, and to complete their assignments.
Some students are missing assignments from the past week.  The Module Post-Test/Quiz will be given on Wednesday or Thursday of this week.  It is imperative they do their work and turn it in prior to the Quiz.
Work for Monday, Due on Tuesday will be WB pgs. 117-118 1-8 with explanations.
Advisory will be closed Monday November 6th as I will be on a bus full of girls headed to a basketball game.  Mrs. Lorenzen will be available for academic recovery from 3-3:30 if anyone would like to stay.
I'm currently working on getting all of the assignments entered in and grades updated.  I appreciate your patience.

Students are working on graphing Linear NonProportional Relationships.
Homework from yesterday was 4.1 Linear NonProportional Relationships Questions 1-12 in the workbook, or Online Homework for 4.1.
Students that did not complete their homework due to the "Halloween" factor, will have the same 1day grace period that exists in class on a daily basis.
Students had a "Pop Quiz" in class today, it involved solving equations and graphing linear equations.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns please email me.
The network will be closed at 4:30 for maintenance, they are estimating it will be down for at least an hour.

Assignment

Core 8 Math has started Module 4 lesson 1.  Students completed notes in class and had time to work on their assignment.
They may work in their workbooks pages 98-100 Questions 1-12.
-If they choose to work online, it is VITAL that they go through their my.hrw.com dashboard.
-If they go through the Interactive Student Edition and work the problems the computer will not record their scores.
Through their dashboard, they are completing the assignment I've assigned.  One of the perks of the online resources is that it is able to adapt and change based on the students work, if I assign in as Intervention Homework.  I've assigned this for the classes today, I've never used it before.  It is adaptive, similar to the STAR test, and will assign questions for review or warm-up and then the homework aspects.  It will also adjust and give challenge problems too!  I'm not sure what it will actually look like, I'd appreciate feedback!  Sometimes the data I receive isn't worth the struggle you see, at the same time, sometimes its a great help!  So please let me know what you observe!
-If they need to do an assignment and it doesn't show in their Dashboard, just send me an email and I'll investigate.
-If it's a late assignment, I have to go in and reopen the assignment.
I'm working on grading the corrections turned in today.
I hope you have a happy and safe evening,
V/R
Mrs. Faught

Assignment

Students took the Module 4 Pretest today and were assigned Workbook pages 92 and 93 to complete in class.  If they did not complete them in class, they will then be their homework.
Students were also asked to work 5 to 10 minutes in IXL to refresh their Scientific Notation skills, the 8th grade as a whole scored 15% on that portion of the Interim test they took the week prior to Parent Teacher Conferences.  I'll monitor their work through IXL, that data, along with the Interim individual data will help determine the subgroups that need intervention.
As always, please email me if you have any questions or concerns.

Happy Friday!!!
Students had a busy week, 7th grade finished up Module 3 and started Module 4, Ratios and Proportional Relationships.
8th Graders wrapped up Module 3 with the Module 3 Quiz today.  Next week they will start Module 4 Nonproportional Relationships.

It's hard to believe but we are nearly half way through the second quarter, progress reports will be posted next week.  Teachers have to have grades updated by the end of school on Tuesday.  Please encourage students to complete any corrections as I will need assignments turned in Monday to have time to grade them prior to posting grades on Tuesday afternoon.
If students want to do corrections and the online assignment will not open please email me and I'll get it open as soon as I can.  If they say I kept their Workbooks, I did record their scores, but they were instructed to pick up their workbooks prior to leaving class today, so they should have them...

Assignment

Today's notes and video are attached.
Students are to complete WB pages 71 through 73 all of the questions, and 74.
3.1 Representing Proportional Relationships, the assignment has also been loaded into the online textbook at my.hrw.com as PMT 3.1.
Google classroom short stories were due today.  Students were to choose 5 of the vocabulary words for Module 3 from pg 69 in their workbook and write a short real life story integrating those terms.
Thank you for your time,
Mrs. Faught

Due:

Assignment

In class students updated their Unit 1 Data chart in the back of their IMJ.  They then completed a reflection page, it was modeled in Cornell notes on the smart board, I've attached the smart slides for today.
We discussed how the grade for the semester is accumulative, they do not start over with a clean slate at the beginning of the 2nd quarter.  This was also discussed in depth at the beginning of the year.  The reflection is an invitation to analyze the work and habits completed first quarter to mark what worked, and what possibly didn't work.  There is still time to bring their grades up, but it will take work.
The short story is due tomorrow.  Students are to write a short story using at least 5 terms from the module 3 vocabulary on page 69 in their workbook.  Story is to illustrate real life application of the math terms.  It was assigned last week in Google Classroom.
Students were given time in class to complete the "Are you Ready" for Module 3, either on their computers or out of the workbook.  It is due Wednesday as well.
As always,
If you have any questions, please send me an email!
Thank you for your time,

Assignment

Study Guide for the Unit 1 Test.
The Unit 1 Test will test students over the materials covered in Module 1 and 2.  It will be completed on the Computer unless student requested a paper copy in class on Friday.  If your student would like a paper copy and they didn't put their name on the list in class Friday please email me so I can make sure I have enough copies on hand.

The study guide is in the text book, pages 59-62.
In class Thursday and Friday students participated in review stations.  Through these stations they should have worked on five worksheets, these worksheets gave extra practice with Scientific Notation, Roots, and Integer Exponents.
The answer key is attached.

Students are encouraged to work through the problems then use the key to check their work.
They will receive credit for their work, not for just the right answer.  It's important they complete the work.
IXL is another resource they may utilize to study and review for the test.
     D. Rational Numbers
     E. Operations with Rational Numbers
     F. Exponents and Roots
     G. Scientific Notation
They also have access to their online textbook and all of the resources it has to offer.

I hope you enjoy the weekend.  I am currently grading the quizzes from last week.  I will send out a Skyward progress report once I've updated the class grades.

Happy Friday!
Today in Core 8 Math students took an eight question quiz over Integer Exponents.
Integer exponents involve your basic squares and cubes, but also the negative exponents and the zero exponent as well.
I've attached the slides from today's class, one of which includes examples of what they have been working on this week.
Students were to complete homework for Lesson 1 Module 2 Wednesday and Thursday with the Quiz over that lesson today.
Please encourage students to work on corrections, or if they completed their homework in their Workbooks they may still go online and complete the Personal Math Trainer homework as well.  It's a fairly painless way to get in more practice and improve their grade!  The only homework I've assigned for the weekend is corrections for those that need to complete them.
Corrections and retakes for Module 1 have now concluded, with the retake of the Module 1 quiz yesterday.
My goal for this weekend is to get caught up on grading, I hope to send out progress report emails on Sunday.
Thank you for supporting and encouraging your students in their academic endeavors!
If you have any questions or concerns please email me.
Thank you for your time and consideration,

Assignment

In class today students completed their notes on Integer Exponents, which consists of two foldables.  The foldables have been uploaded into their Google Classroom if they to reference them again and left their notebooks at home.
Homework for tonight is lesson 2.1 online through the Personal Math Trainer, or out of the workbook, pages 36-38, even numbered questions only.
Tomorrow students will have a Quiz over Integer Exponents.
During advisory today students were given the opportunity to retake the Module 1 Quiz.  If they did not finish they were given the option of staying after school today to finish it, or they may come in before school Friday, I should be here by 7:15 barring any unforeseen circumstances.
Tomorrow is a PLC Friday so students will be released at 1 pm.  I will not be available after school as teachers have Professional Learning Community meetings.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to email me.

Assignment

Happy Thursday!
For some students it was a great Thursday for others...not so much.
Student took a quiz today, technically it was the Module 1 Post-test.
It was completed in their my.hrw.com account and is viewable from their dashboard.
Students that did not demonstrate mastery have the option to complete corrections.
Expectations for corrections:
  • Use a separate sheet of paper with proper heading
  • Correct ALL missed questions (mastery not just passing)
  • Work out all problems and explain your mistake
    • Answers alone are pointless (literally)
    • Students that turn in a page with answers only will not receive the credit for corrections as they have not provided proof of inspecting and correcting misconceptions.
  • Turn in corrections within 1 week of the original assignment due date.
If you have any questions please feel free to email me.
Friday in class we will be starting the vocabulary for the next chapter and taking the pretest.
Thank you for your time,

Assignment

Good Afternoon,
Students worked on Integer Exponents today with the goal of understanding the exponent rules and being able to create equivalent expressions using exponents.  Students took notes in their IMJ and worked through some of the problems in their WB.
Students should work through the Explore Activity 1 and 2 on Workbook pages 33-35. Pages 36-38 # 2-36 even or the Online homework PMT 2.1 will be assigned Thursday and will be due on Friday.

I am still grading the students corrections and late work.  I'm working through a vision issue dealing with eye fatigue, focusing issues, and eye spasms...it's interesting to say the least.  Needless to say,  grading student papers is taking a lot longer than I anticipated.  I appreciate your understanding and patience.
If you have any questions or concerns please shoot me an email,

Assignment

Core 8
Students should have completed their Pretest for Module 2 in class today.
If they did not finish they were asked to come in for advisory to complete it.
We will start Module 2 on Wednesday.  Students will need to bring their IMJ and Workbook to class with them, along with their pencils.
Students are struggling with decoding math questions in their text and on the online text pages.
Tomorrow we will be working on annotating notes in the workbook along with completing a foldable in their IMJ.
As far as homework goes, students that have the reteach packet for Module 1 is due on Thursday.  The students that do not have the reteach packet should be finishing their corrections.  There will be a retake offered on Thursday either in advisory or after school until 3:30.  If your student scored below a 60% on the Unit 1 Module, I need them to retake the Quiz, I have a paper copy, again the goal is to prove mastery.
Thank you for your time and support,
As always, please email me if you have any questions or concerns.

Assignment

Freedom Walk Monday
Today in Math we passed back papers, students completed a warm-up regarding exponents, and those that need to retake the Module 1 Quiz received a reteach packet that will be due on Thursday.  For those that demonstrated mastery of the concepts in Module 1 have started working on their NASA Math application challenge problems.  As ALWAYS work is required for credit to be earned.
Those that did not receive a reteach packet but scored below an 80% on the Quiz should be working on Quiz Corrections, they can view their Quiz through my.hrw.com, it will be a pop up so make sure you've allowed popups from my.hrw.com.
I am working on differentiating for Module 2.  Students that passed the Pretest will not have to do the daily workbook assignments, they will be working through real world application problems.
Please know that I'm generally available after school until 3:30 to work with students, I just ask that you verify via email just incase there is a meeting scheduled.
I've attached the slides from today.
Thank you for your service,

Happy Wednesday!
Today in class students collaborated on lesson 1.3 then graded it in class.
The questions circled are questions not answered prior to grading, the ones marked with a red x are questions missed.
As always corrections are encouraged.
Students then worked through page 27 in their small groups, if they did not finish it becomes homework.
There will be a Post-Test tomorrow for Module 1.
If you have any questions please feel free to email me.
Thank you for your time,
Mrs. Faught

Assignment

Corrections for the Review test 1 & 2 and the corrections/completions for the three pieces of the IMJ that have been graded were due by today.
Per classroom expectations, students have one week after the original due date to turn in any corrections.
I had several students turn in work that did not have their name on it.
These assignments were posted on the whiteboard by the Week at a Glance.  They lived there for a day, then I recycled them.
If students do not have their assignment it is viewable online.
I will have their grades updated by Saturday evening and will send out an email update.
The school progress reports will be sent out on Wednesday, September 6th.  Teachers must report grades by the end of the day on Tuesday.  Please encourage students to get their work in, not just for my class but for all of their classes.
We do offer Academic Recovery after school from 3 to 3:30.  If you would like your student to stay please email their advisory teacher or the teacher they need to do work for so they can sign them up.
I hope everyone has a great weekend.
I've loaded the homework assignment into the online text book.
If they are using the workbook it is:
8th Grade Pgs. 18-20 # 1-22, 24,26, & 27. or 1.2 Real Numbers.
7th grade Pgs 23&24 all.  or 1.3 Subtracting Integers

Assignment

Congratulations!!!  We made it through the first full week of school!!!
Homework is getting to know your textbook and online textbook resources.
Students are to go through their physical text as well as their online text resources.
They should have five points or formulate five questions for each resource.
They also need to log in to their online text at my.hrw.com.
If it does not work, please go to the main log in screen and check the "webchecker" it will trouble shoot connectivity and program issues.
Students have been instructed to ask parents for help if they need to run the web checker, to not download anything with out parental guidance.
Please let me know if there are any issues.
Students will finish their benchmark assessment on Monday in class or Tuesday in Advisory.  If they have not taken the STAR test they will also take it next week.
I hope you have a great weekend!!!
