Final Draft is due – Civil Liberties Paper (Make sure you have turned in the thesis statement, outline, rough draft, and peer edits)

Quiz for Branches of Government. Once finished, select government based crash course video to study more in depth and develop a deep question about – examples will be provided.

 

Wednesday

Introduction to Human Rights – watch videos and take notes.

Create google slide presentation regarding the question formulated in previous day, to provide answer to question to the class.

 

Thursday

Discuss videos and impact they had / importance of Human Rights. Break up into small groups to begin writing script for Human Rights Public Service Announcement (PSA).

Study guide for final will be handed out (paper copy). An electronic study guide will also be available.

 

Friday

Continue writing script for PSA. Start to create story board for filming PSA as a group.

Continue to work on study guide for final, ask questions if necessary – Final will start Monday.

Begin more in-depth look into the Legislative Branch through reading / worksheet / game

Wednesday

First day: Presentation for Solving Poverty – Students will present their unique approaches to solving poverty, while also asking questions to other groups regarding their plans of actions.

Students will participate in an activity to learn what the twelve steps to the legislative process and determine the order in which each of these activities occurs.

Thursday

Final day: Presentation for Solving Poverty – Students will present their unique approaches to solving poverty, while also asking questions to other groups regarding their plans of actions.

Students will work in small groups to review primary source documents that are either currently or recently within in the twelve-step process.

Investigate Cost of Living in Local Area

Re-visit nonviolent protesting assignment in order to work in small groups and create a presentation.

Tuesday

Create Cost of Living Calculations for criteria set forth by class previous day.

Finish assignment and present findings to class, attempting to convince them their historical event is nonviolent in nature – using the criteria set forth to them previously in primary source documents.

Wednesday

Compare / Contrast findings for cost of living with that of federal minimum wage. Introduce Solving Poverty Project.

Participate in panels over civil rights events to investigate and decide whether or not these events were nonviolent / violent or warranted / unwarranted.

Thursday

Groups begin working on distinct ways in which they could significantly impact poverty within the United States by brainstorming new programs or examining ways in which old programs could be improved.

In depth analysis of the causes that brought about the Voting Rights Act of 1965, as well as the results of its passing.

 

Sharing Quizziz for assessment that will take place on Monday, November 6th.

Friday

Groups continue the investigation and begin to formulate a plan of action in how they will convince their classmates their plan is the best moving forward.

Introduction of Voting Rights Act of 1965 - A discussion will be based on limitations states placed on African Americans – poll taxes, grandfather clause, literacy and civics tests, as well as violence.

Students will begin investigating the interconnectedness that exists between poverty and immigration.

Students will investigate how engaged the current community is in the voting process using sources such as the online U.S. Census Bureau. They will look at current issues such as voter fraud and restrictions, and how they are limited by the state through regulations or laws.
