Virtual Field Trip - Ellis Island
Now that you have had the opportunity of learning about the immigration process and the danger of only hearing a single story about various cultures, I want you to go to this link ( http://teacher.scholastic.com/activities/immigration/ ) and explore Ellis Island, Angel Island, and the various immigration stories that brought people over to the United States. Fill out the attached KWL worksheet prior to taking the virtual field trip for the first two columns, and then the last column once your field trip has concluded. Once you have done this, begin writing your own immigration story. Imagine that you are an immigrant coming from a different country (either choose one or use the country which your family migrated from originally) and tell us where you are coming from, why you are coming, and what you hope to accomplish while in the United States.

Example Story - http://www.scholastic.com/teachers/article/relive-boys-journey-america

Questions to consider:

Who are they?
Why are they leaving?
What was their trip like coming over to Ellis Island?
How was their experience at Ellis Island?
Where are they going to in the United States and why?
(Answer in detail using aspects / elements of historical fact to support your adventure)
